                                                           बाबुराम पौड्याल Tea Garden of Assam       सन् १८२० तिर भारतस्थित बृटिस अधिकारीहरुले चिनबाट चियाको खेती भारतमा भित्तयाएका थिए । उनिहरुले त्यहांबाट ल्याइएको चियाको  बीऊलाई कलकत्ताको बोटानिकल गर्डेनमा परिक्षण गरेपछि पहिला कुमाऊंतिर रोप्न पठाएका थिए । त्यसपछि मात्र दाजिलिङ क्षेत्रमा र आसामतिर विस्तृत खेती गर्न पठाएका थिए । आसाम र दाजिलिङमा व्यवसायिकरुपमा चिया खेतीको संभाव्यता अध्ययन गरेपछि सन् १८५४मा युरोपियन व्यवसायीहरुलाई दार्जिलिङमा चिया खेतीको अनुमति दिइएको थियो । सन् १८७० को दशकसम्ममा असाम र दर्जिलिङतिर तीनसय भन्दा बढी चिया बगानहरु बनाइसकिएका थिए ।  बगानमा काम गर्नका लागी दशहजार नेपाली, सिक्कीमी र भुटानीहरुलाई बगान वरपर बसोबास गराइयो । ती चिया बगानहरु र काठ काट्ने, भवन बनाउने जस्ता कार्यहरुमा काम गर्ने  नेपालीहरु को संख्...
